Show 33 SLCDPU experiences some growth, JVWCD has significantly more people to serve. Therefore it is important to look at the goals each agency sets for itself, and the success they have had in reaching these. In terms of the goals each agency has set for itself, SLCDPU wants to carry over 25,000 acre feet of water from summer 2003. This means that the agency does not want to tap into this water in its reservoir during the fall, winter, and spring 2003/ 2004. JVWCD sets its goals in terms of community awareness. The success of its program is based on public participation rates in water conservation classes, water audits, etcetera ( Conservation Annual Report 2003, 11/ 1/ 03). In terms of the budget allocated to each of these efforts, the water conservation program at SLCDPU receives two percent of the agency budget, approximately $ 100,000 per year. Water conservation programs at JVWCD receive approximately $ 500,000 per year from JVWCD's general budget ( Duer, 3/ 3/ 04, Mohadjer, 3/ 1/ 04). The results of each agency's water conservation programs reveal that SLCDPU's economic approach and water conservation program in general requires less funding and results in an overall reduction in water consumption in its population. The independent variables identified in this analysis that determined the water conservation approaches for SLCDPU and JVWCD will be more fully explored and developed in the conclusion. Additionally, factors in the key distinctions of economic approaches and long term goals will be discussed. |
