Show 16 rates ( Salt Lake City Proposed Water Rates, 2003). Currently, SLCDPU's water conservation program consists of the new rate structure, a water conservation Master Plan, and advertising to consumers about the importance of water conservation. To develop these programs, the water conservation coordinator, Stephanie Duer, as well as agency staff develop plans based on the needs of Salt Lake City. These ideas are reviewed by a committee of residents and businesses in Salt Lake City, the Public Utilities Advisory Council ( PUAC). The members of this committee serve on a voluntary basis and have a stake in the water supply of Salt Lake City. In the case of rate restructuring, PUAC developed more strict regulations in addition to the plan presented by Duer. The program is then presented to the City Council and the Mayor of Salt Lake. Generally, these bodies have been supportive of SLCDPU's current water conservation efforts. Jordan Valley Water Conservation District ( JVWCD) Jordan Valley Water Conservation District began its water conservation program in 1998 with the opening of the Demonstration Gardens, a showcase of low- water and water- wise vegetation. Paula Mohadjer was hired in February 2001 to direct its water conservation program. Jordan Valley Water Conservation District implements water conservation policies by relying on a non- intrusive, voluntary approach to water conservation. They encourage their community to conserve water by information dissemination and agency example. |
