Show 19 Methods After determining the topic of municipal water conservation, I examined water providing agencies along the Wasatch Front and determined that the water conservation programs of Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities and the Jordan Valley Water Conservation District would provide an adequate range of practice for exploring the various issues concerning water conservation programs. I decided to focus on residential water conservation efforts to narrow the number of outside variables that affect each agency's approach to water conservation. The main object of analysis are interviews and resulting follow- up phone calls and email with the water conservation directors from each agency. The interviews took place in each person's office. Although I followed a general topic list for each interview, I allowed for variations between each interview to explore topics unique to each agency. The interviews lasted between one hour and 1 hour and thirty minutes. I emailed a follow up questionnaire in March of 2004 to determine the results of summer 2003' s water conservation efforts, as well as to answer questions that had developed over the course of my research. I conducted a twenty minute telephone interview with Stephanie Duer ( SLCDPU) in response to the questionnaire. Paula Mohadjer ( JVWCD) responded via email. Additionally, I conducted a literature review on material available from each agency's website, as well as broadcast and written information provided by each agency. Finally, I used newspaper articles to get a sense of how each agency was perceived by its surrounding community and political aspects of the |
