Show TABLE 8.-Existing hydroelectric power developments, Ohio River Basin (exclusive of Tennessee River) 1 Numbers correspond to numbers on fig. 4. 1 Plants of* 2,500 kilowatts or more installed capacity. Source: Federal Power Commission. pective hydroelectric power in the Ohio River Basin includes paxts of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky. Several major integrated electric systems within this area are interconnected and coordinated with each other. The combined systems experience a peak load of 7,067,000 kilowatts in 1948. About 94 per- cent of the electric generating capacity in the basin is in fuel electric plants. By 1951, total installed generating capacity for the larger east central region will be about 14 mil- lion kilowatts. This region includes some large cities such as Akron, Cleveland, Toledo, and Chicago, and industrial areas north of the Ohio River Basin. The transmission network through- out the entire region is interconnected and is be- coming coordinated. The estimated regional peak demand for December 1950 is 12 million kilowatts. Power is supplied almost entirely from privately owned steam electric plants which represent 22 percent of the entire power generating capacity in the United States. 648 No.1 Name and State River Operating company or agency m a .* annual ctlve energy _ , , .
