State and local interests have constructed reser- voirs for flood control, water supply, and low water regulation. Of these, reservoirs at seven locations, having an aggregate storage capacity of 1,063,000 acre-feet are of greatest importance in connection with the functioning of the system of Federal res- ervoirs indicated in table 5. Local protection projects have been constructed at 29 localities to protect such cities as Johnstown, Huntington, Cincinnati, and Paducah, 21 other urban areas, and 4 agricultural areas, which include some 80,000 acres of farm land, against crop season floods.
