Show The Imperial Irrigation District was organized under the laws of California July 25, 1911, and embraces a total of 603,840 acres all of which land is claimed to be irrigable. Of this area at the date of the filing of the application 540,916.19 acres were privately owned, 55,-725.94 acres were entered lands, for which final certificate had not been issued and 7,197.87 acres were unentered public lands. As a source of water supply in desert land cases this district and its dependent operating companies have been before this office and the department for a number of years and through this and other means all of its attending problems are well understood. The first formal action on the district and its dependent companies was taken in April, 1915, at which time the department approved a memorandum prepared by this office, wherein recommendation was made with respect to fixing a definite value for the stock of the various subsidiary companies when offered as evidence of water rights in connection with desert land cases. Based on this approval and in conformity therewith the Register and Receiver at El Centro, California, were on April 6, 1915, instructed as follows: "After careful consideration of the entire matter, I have reached the conclusion that this office is warranted in accepting evidence of ownership of stock in Imperial Water Companies Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 12, Imperial East Side Water Company, Imperial South Side Water Company, South Alamo Water Company and North End Water Company at the rate fixed by the by-laws of the said companies that is at the rate of one share of stock for each acre of irrigable land except Imperial Water Company |
