Show BILL: Yeah. I liked Saving Private Ryan except the premi e was rath r dumb. Th noise was just about what it is. There's so much noise you can t believe it. You can t believe the noise! There's another one called Cross of Iron that Peckinpah made. It's th German Army down in the Crimea when they are being kicked out of Russia. James Mason plays a colonel in it. Charles Coburn plays a sergeant in the German Army. It's a good war movie. It doesn't matter that they are Germans or what they are. The combat in it is good. The combat in Private Ryan is good, except they put-Did you ever see it? JAS: No, I haven't. BILL: Well, they are down in this kind of ravine, and the Germans are shelling them, but they shell for hours on end. His only brother has been killed, and he's in the paratroopers, and they want to bring him back out of there and bring him home. Well, we don't know exactly where he is. Well, they've got radios. They could have damn soon found out where he was, so they wouldn't have send these six people to route ahead of the lines to find Private Ryan, and then when they do, when the three that are left finally do find him, he's says, "I'm not leaving. These are my brothers. This is my family. I'm not leaving these people." You know, you wouldn't. But the show was good, and the combat was good. The noise was good. If you ever get a chance to, rent it or something, because it's a pretty good movie. JAS: Okay. BILL: I'll never find it again. JAS: You said there was an evening when you were at Guam that you were up at the 96 |
