Show artillery, all our tanks all our trucks- we were told ''Leave it! W '11 r plac it." And our commanding general said, "What are you talking about? We n ed thi fight with. I can't leave this ." So, we brought it out with us. That's when th y broke that pass that blew the bridge out. JAS: Kasserine, is it? BILL: No, no, that's in Europe. This was Funchilin Pass. You got to understand, in North Korea there's two roads: one on the east side of Korea and one on the west side of Korea. There's no lateral roads that go across. JAS: Is there a mountain range? BILL: Oh, yes! It's starting the Himalayas. Boy, it's deep. It's - everything is straight up and down. The only place that is a village at all is where the two mountains meet and there's a little valley. They aren't very big. But no, the Chasin Reservoir is just a reservoir that blocks off the river. And there at the bottom of that is the Yudam-ni and then up a little further is another - I can get you a map and show you it. JAS: You've described it well. BILL: I mean, there aren't a lot of lateral roads. Pardon? JAS: You've described it well. BILL: Yeah, and there aren't any lateral roads. And I hate to say anything about the army because they were a handicap, but the 1st Cav went up the west. They were gth Army and we were lOth Corps in the gth Army. But the marine corps and one other and an army division were the 1oth Corps. Now, that's smaller. A corps is less than six divisions. An 53 |
