Show sh ot at us we won't shoot at you." Then it changed a little. JA : This is sort of early on in the war? BILL: That was, well, we were still up at the reservoir yeah. JAS: Okay. BILL: Then, when they came down, when we were fighting down in North Korea proper, down lower, well yeah- then it changed. But they didn't have artillery or air ... They had some planes, but we had air superiority and we had artillery superiority over them (the American forces, not just the marine corps). JAS: Yeah. BILL: I mean the American forces. So ... Would you like a sweet roll? JAS: Thanks. Actually, do you mind if I run and grab a sandwich out of my car? BILL: No, I don't mind at all. JAS: Great. Okay, I'll do that real quick. BILL: Okay. You better turn that thing off. RECORDING STOPS JAS: Well, why don't we go back, for now, to World War II. BILL: Okay. JAS: What else do you remember from Guam? BILL: Well, it's a beautiful island. It really is. We got to - like I said, I did all the scouting and there was one place in there that we had a new lieutenant that had just got 58 |
