Show arr t d them. They took them to the Provo t Marshall t nt. H j u t had a tent. H r the Provost Marshall a major and a first Sergeant and all his MP standing in ther . They brought the e two idiots in, and they gave them their name rank and rial numb r so the MPs knew who they were. They said, "Well, we're going to lock you up." Well, they weren't going to lock them up. So Roundtree pulled this .32 Spanish out and said, "All of you get up against the wall!" Held the military police up and a major; and he told White, "So now you get clear, and when you get out, I'll get out." Then they took off. We had a tent that's about as long as this room. J AS: Maybe ten feet? BILL: Yeah. It was a squad tent. We were all in it. We had straw on the floor, and everybody was lying around. It was a nice warm day. Everybody was comfortable, and Roundtree and White come running into the tent and handed Vanderveen his pistol, went back and lay down on their sleeping bags. Nobody thought anything of it. About five minutes later you hear a bullhorn come out and says, "Everybody in that tent get your ass out on the parade ground." (Anything out of your building is the parade ground.) Who's screwing around out there? "Get out! You've got three minutes to get out, and then I'm going to start shooting." Find out who's messing around. I don't remember who it was that opened the tent fly and closed it and said, "My God, there's MPs everywhere you can look, and they've all got shotguns!" I said, "I guess we better get out." So we walked out and they checked everyone of us as we came out, except Roundtree and White. They didn't come out. They knew it 88 |
