Show And I'm sorry I know that ounds terrible· and probably p pl will think th marines are just kill crazy- and maybe they are. And yeah, combat you're a little psychotic anyway. But my feelings are: you've killed my people I'm going to kill you. See, I'm completely for the death sentence. I really am. But I'm not for what we've got- that the guy is in thirty years and still making appeals. I think if he's convicted of murder he gets one trial, one appeal, and then he's shot. And if that's the worst way to do it ... If that isn't the worst way to do it, find the worst way. I know it isn't going to stop murders. It isn't going to stop it. But he'll never do it again! And he's denied somebody else having a life, so why not take his? That's all. And the Japanese were so vicious. They were so nasty. They wouldn't surrender. They didn't know what surrender was. You know, thirty thousand people and you take twelve and fifteen prisoners- somebody didn't surrender. JAS: Yeah. BILL: And they killed a hell of a lot of us. And then, yeah, I know it sounds pretty grim and stuff but war isn't supposed to be fun. War is supposed to be what it is: you kill more of them than they kill of you. Or, you make it so damned expensive that they want to quit. That's all. JAS: Did you often get scared? BILL: Pardon? JAS: Did you get scared very often? Fear? BILL: Yeah, you're scared. Sure, you're scared. I'm not- you're not scared twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Like I say, the worst time for me- and it still is- is 47 |
