And he said, "Yeah.' He said We've got tog t that cl ar d up." I said,' Okay." o I told them to take off. We got up there and I aid ' up there. ' I forgot how many miles it was - three four miles to where the ... Y u couldn t tell the trail was there unless you knew the trail was there. So I told them to stop "here." And they said, "What's here?'' And I said, "The trailhead. This is where we're leaving." And the doctor was looking around; he said, "I don't see any trail." And I could have shot him. So we all got off the truck and here 's the trail. I turned around and looked. This truck driver was staying with the truck. JAS: Yeah. BILL: He had his feet cocked up - you know, you can fold the windshield down - he had his feet cocked up, sitting there, reading a book. I thought, "Oh, my God!" We went up there, emptied that cave - and these guys are going back and forth talking and smoking and laughing - and emptied all the medical supplies out of the cave and never stirred up a thing. I couldn't believe it. I absolutely couldn't believe it. And then, I think, the worst: I'd reported a big field of Kuna grass , sword grass. JAS: I don't know what that is. BILL: It's just sword grass. It grows, oh, that high to this high and it's like a razor. JAS: Okay. BILL: Boy, you hit it with your hands and you're cut to pieces! If you go through it, you 38
