Show Report of the Regional Director Flood Control. U7, No space in the Dixie Project Reservoirs would be allocated to flood control* However, operation of the reservoirs would have substantial effect on reducing flood flows in the Virgin River* Numerous floods have occurred in the past which caused considerable damage by the washing away of land areas, damage to crops, deposition of sediment and debris on lands and in canals, and destruction of diversion worksa The operation of the project reservoirs would reduce the peak discharges and would withhold a large proportion of the silt from downstream areas, The average reduction of flood damage, which would result from operation of the project, is estimated at §9,000* Project Costs 1|8, The construction costs of the Dixie Project on the basis of the October 19U? cost level were estimated to be $27;Oi|l,OOO. These costs were converted to the July ±9h9 cost level by application of appropriate average cost indexes. The estimated costs and average cost indexes are summarized as follows: Index Eased Oct • 19U7 on Octs 19h7 July 19h9 Feature C ost Cost Cost Virgin City Dam and Reservoir 1/ $10 ,802,000 1.021; $11 s 061,000 Lower Gunlock* Dam and Reservoir 3 ,990,000 lo02U 1^,086,000 Canal Systems 6 ,16U,000 1.090 6,717,000 Distribution Systems 1 ,095*000 l.llii 1,220,000 Drainage System 78,000 1.11L 87,000 Powerplants 3 % 7)41,000 i»o5U 3,9ii2,0O0 Pumping Plant 93,000 1.06U 99,000 Transmission System 320,000 1.019 326,000 Acquisition of LaVerkin Hydroelectric Plant U00,000 UOO.000 Settlement, O&M, Invej sti- gation and Surveys 3£8,OO0 358,000 Total $27 ,Gul,000 028,296,000 3/ Includes cost of relocating State Highway 15. |
