Show Record all I remember about it. On our expedition down the Colorado River we took a row boat which was equipped with oars, and I think we were gone about four days on the round trip down fifteen 1942 miles and back. While we were down there we looked around and did some prospecting, but did not stake off any claims. Coming back up we probably rowed some and towed. Going up any river that is what one usually does, and as I remember that is what we did on this trip. Mr. Nims was along with us when we made the trip with Mr. Stanton in 1889. I do not remember anything about whether Mr. Stanton's survey had been completed on his first expedition to a point some few miles below Lee's Ferry. I remember that we picked up the line before we got to Lee's Ferry 1943 because we came up the river three or four miles on the finish with one of the boats. According to my recollection the survey 1944 was not completed into Lee's Ferry. It is my recollection that some surveying was done above Lee's Ferry on that trip, but I wouldn't be able to say how much. Mr. Nims seemed to be a keen 1945 observer of facts and impressed me very well as a man. I was acting in the capacity of boatman on that trip and afterwards I had to take over the cooking as a side line. 1949 The lost mine was supposed to be in the lower canyon, near Bright Angel. We intended to prospect the whole canyons all the way down and to be in there for a year or more. I don't recall how many days we were going from Green River to Cataract Canyon, but we did no prospecting along there nor until be got 1951 out of Cataract Canyon. Messrs. Kane and McDonald, boatmen, had made the trip before and Mr. Hyslop, engineer of the party, had been with Mr. Stanton. We who had been through before had talked very fully about our former trips and experiences on the river. 1952 On my journey down the Green River in the Major Powell, we made probably fifty or sixty marks on the rocks with paint so we would remember the location of the channel and we also made a little 1953 diagram or chart, which I am now unable to find.
