Show Record journey I found that the channel had changed at quite a few places, probably a dozen or more, during the three weeks that elapsed between the down and up trips, during which there had been a raise in the river. On my second trip in the Major Powell we found the channel in some places to be similar, in those 1954 places where the deep water was similar; and there was quite a little change in the river. There had been quite a change in stage of water between my first trip and second trip in the Major 1955 Powell. We almost failed to get out of the Colorado River at all 1956 because of the high water. The greatest change in the river we found was between our first trip down and our second trip down in the Major Powell, but I expect we found the river the same in a great many places. William Hiram Edwards testified on redirect examination as follows: 1958 I never observed any sand waves during any of my trips on the Green or Colorado Rivers. In our mining operations I never heard of any government permits and know nothing about any 1959 government permits for our placer mining. The water came up to within a few feet of the dredge we were operating below Green River, Utah. As the river raised it would come fairly close up to the dredge, but we figured the dredge was high enough so that water would never reach it unless there was abnormally high water. We did not operate the Major Powell at night. I think its draft was about eighteen inches loaded. 1960- 1967 Exhibits Nos. 222 to 241, inclusive, being pictures taken on the Green and Colorado Rivers were identified by the wit- 1967- 1974 ness and received in evidence.
