Show Record five men who came down with the two boat loads of supplies from Bluff on the occasion I mentioned made those two boats at Bluff, and I helped put them in the river and went with them until I reached my camp at Honaker Trail and they proceeded on down the 2419 river five or six miles farther. On my 1921 trip with the Trimble party I saw Mr. Wimmer at a point about half way between the San Juan River and Astec Creek, to which point he and Mr. Howland 2420 came in a row boat equipped with an outboard motor. Wimmer came up the river to our camp and passed on up the river. I next saw Wimmer on that trip at a point about half way between Last Chance Creek and the Crossing of the Fathers when he came along in his 2421 boat alone. I do not know whether it was the same boat he had on the former occasion or not, and again he came upstream to our camp, so that he must have gone downstream between his two trips that I have mentioned. Next time I saw him was at Lee's Ferry 2422 Mr. Marrs who took me up the river when I returned with the cook for the Trimble party was an employe of the Southern California Edison Company. Both Mr. Wimmer and I were employed by that company 2423 to handle boats on the river. Besides the boats I have mentioned so having been seen by me during the Trimble expedition, I saw Mr. Emory Kolb's boat that he took on down to Lee's Ferry, and the boat that we use on the Colorado river was a boat that 2424 the Kolb party left with us. On the occasion when I took the cook and photographer out, we began our journey down the Colorado River to Lee's Ferry form a point about eight miles below the mouth of the San Juan, a distance of seventy or seventy- two miles on the river. When I left the Trimble party I indicated the time when I would return, although I had then made no arrangements to be brought upstream in a motor boat, was not counting on it, and didn't know there was a motor boat there. I figured on coming back upstream with my row boat and I arrived exactly at the time that I had fixed for my arrival when I started on the trip. 2425 On the upstream journey I pushed the motor boat in one place for 321 |
