Show Statehood January 4, 1896 'Twas a glorious day for Utah Land of the "Inland Sea," When the information reached us Our people now were free From Territorial bondage, And today we celebrate The day when our loved Utah Became a sovereign state. Today we'll raise our voices, Sing in fair Utah's praise, Whose star on Freedom's banner Shines forth with brightest rays, Let all now work together To spread abroad her fame, For dear to every Utahn Should be fair Utah's name. Long years we'd worked and labor'd For Statehood had applied; Yet through pernicious influence Our pleadings were denied; But at last, Oh! welcome moment, Our people, loyal and true, Could place a star for Utah On the field of azure blue. And since that day, how proudly We've shown to all mankind Our patriotism and loyalty- Nowhere on earth you'll find A people more sincerely Upholding nation's fame, Than our own true hearted Utahns So proud of Utah's name. Her emblem is the beehive Where dwells the busy bee. Throughout our land and nation We're known for industry; And o'er the earth is spreading Abroad fair Utah's fame, Her statesmen bringing honor To our dear Utah's name. January 4, 1926 Hail to her institutions; They'll soon the glory be Of the world, who yet will honor The land of the "Inland Sea," So let us boost for Utah; From knocking e'er refrain; Let each one e'er be zealous For our dear Utah's name. Let every race and people Abroad o'er all the land. Look on fair Utah's progress; On like foundation stand; Her progress based on reverence Unto our God on high, Him who doth rule the heavens, The earth, the sea and sky. We'll tell it to the nations, Proclaim it through the earth, That the Lord our God we honor-Acknowledge too the worth Of our great prophet leaders Who in God's stead do stand- In honoring them we're prospered In our bless'd Utah land. Then come let's sing of Utah The praise that is her due; Hail to her grand old mountains, Her people loyal and true; Let's sing aloud her praises, Our grateful homage pay, And thank the Lord for blessings Bestowed on Statehood day. -W1LLARD BISHOP, Provo Bench, Utah.
