Show Season In spite of the fact that Coach Tom Fitzpatrick is well aware of the exceptional strong aggregation that Dick Romney of the Aggies has assembled at the Logan school, he still has an eye on the state championship. The University has enrolled in her school a good number of athletes who can hardly be prevented from landing first places, and so as the season started the coach was anxious to see a large turnout, even of inexperienced men, in order to bring in the second and third places, the points, when totaled, that seem to undermine individual efforts. At the time of this writing, Utah has won the initial meet against the B. Y. U. Five state records were broken in the meet and four of them were accredited to Utahns. Bill Cox, Ogden strong man, pushed the shot out 42 feet 9% inches, more than four feet farther than his nearest competitor. The mark crashed the conference record held by Davis of Colorado College at 42 feet 8 inches. The amazing performance of Arthur Pilling, a freshman from Shelby, Montana, caused no end of admiration in the meet with Provo. The stocky built underclassman hurled the javelin 177 feet, which is just 11 feet 8 inches farther than Adolph Wullstein put it out to establish a state record last year. Captain Rocky Miller seems to have come into his own, for in the dual meet with the Cougars he negotiated the half-mile in the remarkable time of 2 minutes and 1/5 of a second. The feat is all the more astounding when we remember that the best time that Alex Hoggan ever did was 2 minutes and one and 3/5 seconds. Hoggan was regarded as the premier half-miler of the mountain region. This performance alone makes the year a successful one for Rocky. Hy Goddard, a junior, strayed out on the field two years ago and became interested in the discus. This spring he broke the state record in the event during the dual meet with Provo, May 2 on Cummings field with a throw of 129 feet 19 8/10 inches. We're proud of each one! We are proud of the first-year men for they easily walked off with the intramural track meet and captured first and third places in the annual cross country run. Boyd Squires and Tony Cannon are those referred to and each one will be awarded the official block "U." Some of the stars that have been developed from the freshman class are: Ralph Pratt, Tony Cannon, Howard Egan, Boyd Squires, Reed Colvin, Arthur Pilling and Harry Metos.
