Show 3. RECONNAISSANCE INVESTIGATIONS UTAH a. Central Utah Project (Ultimate Phase), Ute Indian Unit Reconnaissance investigations consisting of plan formulation studies, preliminary cost estimates, and foundation explorations are in progress on the Ute Indian Unit, a separate unit of the Ultimate Phase. This unit would develop essentially all of the balance of Utah's portion of the Colorado River water for irrigation, municipal use, and power production. The unit would serve both Indian and non-Indian lands in the Uinta Basin. Municipal and industrial water would be developed for use in the Uinta Basin to facilitate development of vast deposits of phosphate, oil shale, minerals, and other natural resources. Water would also be diverted from the Uinta Basin to the Bonneville Basin to help satisfy the expanding water requirements of the Was-atch Front area of the Bonneville Basin. A reconnaissance report is scheduled to be completed in fiscal year 1969. b. San Juan County Project Reconnaissance investigations were initiated in fiscal year 1966 and are currently in progress. Water resource and land classification inventory studies for the project area have been completed. Similar inventory-type studies on economic potential and projected population growth, mineral resources and their utilization and recreation resources and their use are also being prepared. Reconnaissance designs and estimates on several potential storage sites are currently in progress. The investigation will, in cooperation with State, local and Federal agencies, evaluate the resource potential of the area, develop an over-all preliminary plan, and select those possibilities that warrant more detailed study. Completion of a reconnaissance report is scheduled for fiscal year 1968. COLORADO - UTAH a. Juniper Project A reconnaissance report on multiple-purpose plans was prepared in July, 1963, justifying feasibility investigations. The State of Colorado and local entities have offered contributions in the amount of $30,000 to the Bureau of Reclamation to expedite feasibility investigations of the Juniper Project by starting in the second half of fiscal year 1968. Initiation of the Juniper Project investigation and the effect of its inclusion on present and future investigation programs is under consideration by the Bureau of Reclamation. 136 |
