Show work was initiated during October 1966. The dam, an earthfill embankment to rise 138 feet above the streambed with a crest length of 1,070 feet, is being built on Cimarron Creek at an elevation of about 8,940 feet. Silver Jack Reservoir will have a total capacity of 13,520 acre-feet. During the 1967 construction season, excavation of the dam cutoff trench was completed, and it has been refilled with selected material. The outlet works intake structure, gate chamber, and conduit have been substantially completed and backfill operations initiated for the outlet conduit. The outlet works stilling basin has been excavated, toe trench excavation completed around the lower end of the stilling basin, and concrete backbilling initiated. The outlet channel has been excavated. Placement of riprap protection is underway. Work has also been started on the spillway. As of this report date, about 31 percent of the work has been completed under this contract. A contract was awarded August 22, 1967, for constructing a field office, laboratory, and garage at the damsite. These facilities are scheduled to be completed early in December 1967. g. Fryingpan-Arkansas Project Although the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project is not a full-fledged participating project of the Colorado River Storage Project because it does not participate in the use of Upper Colorado River Basin Fund revenues, it could be called a "limited" participating project in the Upper Basin development plan because it does use water apportioned to the Upper Basin by the Colorado River Compact and to the State of Colorado by the Upper Colorado River Basin Compact. This project was authorized by Public Law 87-590, which was signed by the President August 16, 1962. Good progress was made under the jurisdiction of Region 7 of the Bureau of Reclamation on the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project during the period from October 1, 1966 to September 30, 1967. Ruedi and Sugar Loaf Dams were about 88 percent completed on the date of this report. The Divide, Chapman, and South Fork Tunnels were 68 percent finished. Clearing of Ruedi Reservoir was completed. Relocation of County Road 104 was almost accomplished. Ruedi Dam is near Basalt, Colorado on the western Slope of the Rocky Mountains, and Sugar Loaf Dam is near Leadville on the eastern slope. A contract for relocation of the railroad around Pueblo Reservoir was signed with the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad Com- 111 |
