Show voir has been held at a low level by bypassing river flows through the penstock and powerplant scroll case and draft tubes with the runner removed. On completion of river outlet repairs, downstream releases will again be made through the river outlet works and stilling basin. The powerplant turbine will be reassembled and the powerplant tested and placed in regular operation when satisfactory reservoir levels are reached. Seedskadee Development Farm Other than the repair work underway on Fontenelle Dam, the Seedskadee Project program centers on the Seedskadee Development Farm, which is completing its second full year of operation. Previous to the 1966 growing season, the Development Farm was in the process of being established. The farm is being operated by the University of Wyoming under the general supervision of an advisory committee, which includes representation from the Bureau of Reclamation, Agricultural Research Service, Soil Conservation Service, and the University of Wyoming. The studies on the farm will provide valuable and needed information on water management practices, crop production, and livestock handling techniques and their relationship to optimum size of family farm units for the Seedskadee Project lands. Detailed records are being kept as a basis for initiation of agricultural economic studies preparatory to development of the Seedskadee Project. Current information from records kept will be summarized by the University of Wyoming. At least one additional year of full operation, concurrent with the above studies, would be very desirable to support and adjust the initial data. Yields attained indicate the soils are productive under proper management. c. Eden Project The Eden Project is located in Sweetwater County, southwestern Wyoming, about 45 miles north of Rock Springs. Major physical features consist of the Big Sandy Reservoir (39,700 acre-feet) and the Eden Reservoir (7,500 acre-feet). There are 113 miles of canals and laterals to serve the project. The present project area with water rights is 17,088 acres. Irrigation development was initiated in 1907 under the Carey Act, and rehabilitation was authorized in 1940 under the Water Conservation and Utilization Act of 1939, but work was stopped during World War II by order of the War Production Board. Work was resumed by the Bureau of Reclamation by the Act of June 28, 1949, with land improvement and settlement by the Department of Agriculture. Construction started in 1950 and was completed in 1960. 128 |
