Show pany. H. C. Lowdermilk Company was awarded the contract and began work on the structures and subgrade. Refinement of hydrologic studies and preconstruction surveys have been continued for the power and municipal water systems on the eastern slope of Colorado. 2. COLORADO AND WYOMING a. Savery-Pot Hook Project Construction of the Savery-Pot Hook Project as a participating irrigation project was authorized by Congress in September 1964. The project is located in Moffatt County, Colorado, and Carbon County, Wyoming. Principal project features consist of two storage reservoirs - the Savery Reservoir and the Pot Hook Reservoir - and a system of canals to provide a full supply of project water to 15,740 acres of land in Colorado and 6,180 acres in Wyoming, and a supplemental water supply to 3,370 acres of inadequately irrigated land in Colorado and 9,975 acres in Wyoming. Advance Planning Advance planning studies were initiated in fiscal year 1966. Tabulation and analysis of land classification and drainage field data, water supply studies, engineering surveys, and geologic investigations are in progress. Studies are being made to see if additional lands could be included to replace approximately 2,800 acres of land in the Fourmile and Timberlake area formerly classified as irrigable and now determined not suitable to be included in the project service area. A definite plan report is scheduled for completion in fiscal year 1970. 3. NEW MEXICO a. Hammond Project The Hammond Project, located in northwestern New Mexico, was completed late in 1962 and has been operated and maintained by the Bureau of Reclamation through the 1967 irrigation season. Water has been supplied to project lands on a rental basis. The project works consist of the Hammond Diversion Dam on the San Juan River, the main gravity canal, a hydraulic turbine-driven pumping plant, three main laterals, and distribution laterals. Severe land subsidence and cross-drainage erosion problems developed when water was placed in canals and laterals during the 1963 113 |
