Show Record next personal contact with the taking of supplies was in April, 1921. If you don't count drilling equipment as supplies and refer merely to living supplies, there were two occasions when supplies were brought down from Hall's Crossing by boat. Frank Bennett testified for complainant on direct examination as follows: 3171 I am 64 years old, now live at Lund, Utah, and I am super-intending some mining property. My occupation has been principally 3172 mining but I have worked with the geological surveys as a guide and have done a number of different things. I first went to the Colorado River about December 1, 1897, going overland to Hite. Mr. Summer was with me on that trip. Except when I went out to Richfield from Salt Lake, I remained in there for several years. When I say I was in there I mean I was at Good Hope, working for the Good Hope Company, and then I went to the California Bar, where I worked two or three years. After arriving at Hite, I went down the trail to Good Hope Bar with our horses and miles. 3174 Part of the way the trail follows the river on the right- hand side going down. I also came from Good Hope up to Tickaboo with our pack animals. A road had been built by the Good Hope Company between those two points. I remained on Tickaboo Bar until January 1, 1898, and then went back to Good Hope. As I recall we went back to Good Hope with our pack outfit and possibly took a wagon down. 3175 I then remained on Good Hope Bar until July or August, 1898. During the time I was there we were resupplied and our supplies were brought overland to Hite and were thence boated down the Colorado River. At that time I had nothing to do with the boating. They had a flat bottom boat, twenty- two or twenty- four feet long, with a beam of four or five feet. After June and July, 1898, I went to the California Bar, located about eighteen miles downstream from the Good Hope Bar, going down there by boat. We encountered no 3176 trouble in going downstream on that trip. We had a light boat 3177 and went down very nicely. I remained at the California Bar until |
