Show Record hibits 464, 464 A and 464 B exactly joins the end of the road at the left- hand side of Exhibit 462; I don't imagine it does. John B. Cleary, recalled for further cross examination, testified as follows: 2979 I did not testify that the line shown on Exhibit 462 was a continuation of the lines shown on Exhibits 464, 464 A and 2980 464 B, but the lines shown on Exhibit 463 is such continuation. 2981 I can practically indicate on Exhibit 462 the end of the line of the proposed road as it approaches the Colorado River on either Exhibits 464, 464 A or 464 B. ( The witness indicates in lead pencil as requested) The lines which I just drew in lead pencil represent alternate proposals for reaching the river. John L. Dugan testified for complainant on direct examination as follows: 2984 I am Superintendent of Utah Southern Oil Company and live at Moab. I have been with that company for eight years and we are still doing some work in southeastern Utah and in other parts 2985 of the country. My first trip on the Colorado River at Moab was in December, 1924, when I made a trip from the mouth of Mill Creek by motor boat to the site where the Frank Shafer Well was later drilled. My boat was equipped with an out boat Evenrude motor operated by Fred Strong, who then lived at Moab and was more familiar with the river than were and who volunteered to take us down in this boat. Mr. Hanson, President of Utah Southern Oil Company, accompanied us. We then had under consideration the question whether we would participate in the drilling of the well 2986 down there. We left at daylight, went down to the well, and returned back that night, spending only about an hour at the well site. The river was flowing slush ice, which I caused us a good 2987 deal of trouble. The Shafer well to which I have referred was Shafer No. 1. As I remember we had no serious difficulties with sand bars on that trip. Later I made other trips on the Colorado 398 |
