Show Record 2988 River between those points. My company was interested in all of the wells that were drilled down the river except one. My other trips down the river were made in December, 1924, and August, 1925, on row boats equipped with an outboard motor. On one trip I took down the river with Virgil Baldwin in a Moab Garage boat, we had 2989 a great deal of trouble on account of sand bars. I don't recall how long it took us to make that trip, except that we started late in the forenoon of one day and did not return until the evening of the following day. Coming upstream we started shortly after breakfast and spent no time in examining structures or any-thing of that kind. In January and March, 1926, I was 2990 several times on the river. We invariably went down on the barge of the Moab Garage Company, which was then hauling considerable material down the river. On most of the trips we had trouble with sand bars and it was the exception when we did not. I have seen them use their winch and tow line a great number of times to enable them to get off sand bars. Except possibly two or three times we would get off about a mile and a half or two miles above camp and walk into Moab instead of riding the boat upstream because 2991 it was quicker and saved time. Between the latter part of June and the first of October, 1926, I made a number of trips in connection with the operations down there, doing down on the barge a few times and at other times in a motor boat. Until the Lockhart operation was started I never operated any of the small boats and would always have some one from the garage do that; but when the Lockhart operations were commenced we rented a boat from the Moab Garage Company and drove it ourselves. Between the first of July and the forepart of November I made at least there trips a month 2992 down to the Lockhart camp, most of the time running my own boat, and I wouldn't attempt to say how many times I ran that boat. I gathered considerable information concerning the river, but don't know whether I was as familiar with it as others were. The channel changed very rapidly and from trip to trip we had to be very careful |
