Show Record ordinary rapids. Hanson Creek, which is four or five miles below Olympia Bar is about as for downstream as I have been. Edward C. Summer testified on cross examination as follows: 3130 Frank Bennett, my partner, was in there with me all of the time that I have been speaking of. Supplies were brought overland to Trachyte Creek and boated thence downstream. T. Cummings Bennett testified for complainant on direct examination as follows: 3131 I live at Lund and am now running a mine hoisting engine. I have had boating experience on the Osage, Missouri and Colorado Rivers, first going to the Colorado River in 1920 at Hall's Cross-ing. From Hall's Crossing I went horseback to Hite. I was down there working for the Henry Mountain Oil Company, which company 3132 was operating at the lower end of water Pocket Fold, across the river from Rincon, which is about one hundred miles above Lees Ferry. When I first went in I had just food and bedding and 3133 built a raft at Good Hope Bar from lumber that was there. This raft was probably fourteen feet square and drew about seven or eight inches of water. I loaded some casing on there from the Good Hope Bar and also some six inch pipe. My uncle, Frank Bennett, was with me. I had reached Good Hope on horseback from 3134 Hite. When we got down to the Olympia Bar we loaded a wagon and a stove on to the raft. On our trip downstream to Olympia Bar we encountered difficulties only once, when we were hung up for a few minutes on a sand bar at a place they called Warm Springs Canyon; the boat swing off of that and out in the channel and we were all right again. The raft was not large enough to take care of the additional load that was placed on it at Olympia Bar and would sink down into the water, so we went down and camped on another bar for the night, unloading the raft and putting it on the bank. Next morning we got a log and built more on to our raft, so as to take care of our additional load. From there we went on downstream to Bull Frog Rapid, Where we came near crashing |
