Show Record there were on board. Later the Undine was Wrecked and I went up and saw the wreck at a point two or three miles above Nigger Bill 2874 Canyon. It was at a place where the river is narrow and at a 2875 rather swift rapid. When we heard of the wreck my father loaded a row boat on to a wagon and we drove up there. We had no power boats at that time. As editor in charge of my paper I have kept in close touch with the operation of the Moab Garage boats during 2876 the past few years. I think those boats made trips with reasonable regularity. I know they had lots of delays but they hauled a lot of freight and for a long while were making trips pretty regular. As to whether or not they were running on schedule, I don't know. I believe I saw one of Mr. Wimmer's boats at Green River once, but don't recall seeing him at Moab. I know he came in with a boat a time or two, but I do not think I ever saw one 2877 there at Moab. I have also heard about Mr. Wolverton in connection with operations on the river. My best judgment is that there are eight or ten thousand acres in addition to those now under cultivation in Moab Valley that are susceptible of irrigation. I am familiar with other country in southeastern Utah and am fairly familiar with the 2878 country around the town of Green River. I believe there is more land under cultivation at Green River than at Moab and I would judge there are many thousands of acres of land around Green River that are susceptible of irrigation and the growing of crops. There are many thousands of acres of very fertile land in the southeast section of Utah, south and east of the towns of Green River and Moab, that could be farmed if they could get water 2879 on to them. It is said that San Juan County has a million acres of good land that could be either dry farmed or irrigated. The Lasal and Blue mountain region is said to have mineral resources. There is quite a livestock industry in that section, meaning by Livestock, cattle and sheep. That section of the state is at the |
