He comments on a severe snow storm, complaints of Navajo trespassing, Indian dancing in Durango, whiskey sells to So. Ute Indians, and " no symptoms of what is known as the ' Messiah craze' have yet been observable." June 20, 1891 Bartholomew, C. A., Agent, So. Ute Agency Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Bartholomew responds to the commissioner's request the he attempt to get the Southern Utes and the Apaches " to bury the dead in a civilized manner." He writes that he will use persuasion and explanation to convince them to do so. July 13, 1896 (?), Captain, 5th Cavalry, Acting Indian Agent, Cheyenne and Arapahoe Indian Agency Letter to David Day, So. Ute Agency Buckskin Charley and his party have arrived at this agency and are well. The Indians are gathering to entertain them with dancing and feasting. Names of those visiting are listed.
