Kerr Answers letter of July 29th which complains of lease applications not approved. No favoritism was shown but a question of the legality of the former council to represent the tribe is in doubt. NA/ RG75/ 63370- 1923- Con Ute 322 Sept. 17, 1923 Burke, Chas. H., Commissioner Letter to Secretary of the Interior Explains that the So. Utes and the Ute Mountain Indians have elected business councils and signed resolution authorizing the commissioner to grant leases. Ute Agency Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Reports problems in securing permission from Utes for Park Service to take gravel for roads in Mesa Verde.
