Show Military Relations - 515 to write to the Interior Department. July 14, 1887 Stollsteimer, C. F., Indian Agent, So. Ute Agency Letter to Col. P. T. Swaine, Commanding, Ft. Lewis Agent requests the aid of the military in bringing the Utes back to the reservation from the Blue Mountains in Utah. Whites in area formed secret group to eliminate Indians from state of Colorado. Endorsement of P. T. Swaine, Col. 22nd Infantry, and W. Merritt, Brigadier General, attached. NA/ RG 7 5 Aug. 5, 1887 Swaine, Commanding, Ft. Lewis, Colorado Telegram to Asst. Adjutant General, Ft. Levenworth, Kansas Report upon receiving dispatch of August 4th, he sent company of infantry to Blue Mountains, Utah, and another to San Juan County, Utah. Troops will help return Indians to the reservation. Troop presence should quiet tension in the area. Attached are official copies of the telegram that were forward to J. P. Martin, Asst. Adjt.
