Apr. 28, 1893 Bartholomew, Charles, Indian Agent, So. Ute Agency Telegram to Commissioner of Indian Affairs " Serious complication arising hourly on San Juan between Navajos & settlers. Indian messengers bring startling information. Navajos have surrounded several white families. Scene of trouble seventy miles south west of this agency. My indian chief offers their friendly officers. They exert strong restraining influence with Navajos. Shall I take them with me. Will be discreet & hope to avoid blood shed. Answer at once."
