Ute Agency Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Report that letter of May 3, 1887 addressed to the agent containing petition by Utah citizens appears to have been lost, but will forward them if found. NA/ RG 75 May 24, 1887 Petition to the Secretary of the Interior Five pages of petition is sent to the Secretary of the Interior. Petitioners ask him to take necessary steps to keep the Southern Utes on their reservation. NA/ RG 75 May 24, 1887 Stollsteimer, C. F., Agent, So. Ute Agency Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Agent sends to Commissioner a list of petitioners living close to the So. Ute Agency, but he warns that troubles about the reservation are not as bad as they are reported. Agent says that petitions often have names forged to make them seem well-supported. NA/ RG 7 5 June 1, 1887 Jones, K., Bluff, San Juan County, Utah Letter to Pres. F. A. Hammond, Mancos, Colorado Jones has returned from the Elk Mountains where he ran into Pah Utes and renegades who has apparently killed some cattle on the mountain.
