Ute Agency Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Patten informs the commissioner he has requested a company of men from the commanding officer at Fort Lewis to aid him in the conflict the Indians are having with the cattlemen. FRCD/ RG 75 July 8, 1884 Mitchell, H. L., Mitchells Ranch, Utah Letter to W. Patten Mitchell informs Patten of an outbreak of Indian fighting, during which two Indians were killed by cowboys. Sanats(?), Durango Patten requests information about the cattlemen who left from Durango with the intent of driving the Utes out of the country. Ute Indian Agency Sofftle informs Patten he has taken five Ute Indians into his custody in order to return them safely to the Reservation.
