S. S. # 3382/ p. 566- 567 Dec. 28, 1895 " Neglected Southern Utes" Durango Herald Ignacio and his followers have been abandoned by the Government. Members of the Durango Board of Trade have been giving supplies to these Indians so they will not starve. Ignacio says he was promised an agency on the west end of the reservation so that they would not have to travel over 75 miles to get supplies. Government has not established the promised agency and supplies have not been received for several months. NA, RG 75, BIA/ 505 Dec. 30, 1895 Day, David F., Indian Agent, So. Ute Agency Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Day encloses a newspaper article about the Durango Board of Trade's accusations that the Southern Ute Indians are being neglected by the government. Day denies this charge and adds that the Board is made up of " individuals who have thrown every obstacle cunning could conceive or rascality incubate in way of faithful compliance with law and instruction."
