Hatcher & Bros., Pagosa Springs All persons having land under the ditch have a right to take water from it and are expected to share in the expense of keeping it up. May 25, 1905 Custer, Burton B., Supt., So. Ute Agency Letter to Charles Duff, Clerk, Navajo Springs Agency Custer sends an check to James Mills for work done on the ditch. Work will start on the Piedra Ditch on Monday and James may work on it, if he wishes. Nov. 17, 1905 Peterson, W. M., Supt., Ft. Lewis School Letter to C Hinderlider, Denver Peterson reports that it would be necessary to enlarge the reservoir in Lost Canon in order to supply the reservation with irrigation water. Jan. 13, 1906 Custer, Burton B., Supt., So. Ute Agency Letter to W. M. Peterson, Supt., Ft. Lewis Custer sends a copy of his agreement with John B Harper and the Animas Ditch people. Also, he responds to Peterson's request that Martha Fox's husband receive her annuity check. Oct. 22, 1907 Werner, Charles S., Agent, So. Ute Agency Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Agent requests pay for Indian labor be increased, finding workers for the Animas ditch at these wages is difficult, since they can get better wages in the vicinity of their homes. He requests that Navajo workers be used if utes refuse work. |
