Show Treaties and Agreements - 672 Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Bartholomew denies charges that he is not cooperating in the securing of children for the school at Ft. Lewis. He has been trying to persuade the three chiefs to cooperate and expects some success. He asks that Supervisor Keck not come yet as his presence will " spoil" everything. " These Indians are so bitter against emissaries coming and talking about the pending treaty and the school children, that they declare they will not talk to them." Ute Agency Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Bartholomew gives a description of the various agency employee positions and the yearly salary. Bartholomew states that if the treaty is ratified " we will need every policeman as the country will be overrun by tramps, if the treaty should not be ratified I will need every policeman to prevent the Western Indians from leaving the reservation." Ute Agency Report of Agents Report of the Secretary of the Interior Bartholomew gives his annual report on conditions at the agency- He states that the So. Ute feel the matter of removal to Utah is " unsettled and ( they) are very much inclined to the opinion that they are unjustly dealt with."
