Ute Agency Report of Agents Report of the Secretary of the Interior Patten gives an annual report to the secretary on conditions at the So. Ute Agency in Colorado. He describes the habits and living conditions of the Ute Indians under his care. S. S. # 2100/ p. 77- 78 Sept. 2, 1882 Patten, Warren, Indian Agent, So. Ute Agency Letter to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs This is the handwritten letter which becomes the text for Patten's report to the Secretary of the Interior, published in the congressional record. Price, commissioner of Indian Affairs Patten informs the commissioner that the Utes are killing and eating their sheep because they are not supplied with sufficient beef. The Agency opposes the killing of the sheep because the flocks are to be increased, but Patten acknowledges that the Indians have not received enough beef and that their supply will be reduced even further.
