Ute Agency Meritt calls McKean's attention to the recent report done on his schools and he asks that the suggestions be implemented. Authority to spend $ 11,000 for construction of an additional reservoir has already been given. Permission granted for the purchase of sheep and goats for the schools. June 9, 19 2 6 McKean, E. E., Supt., Cons. Ute Agency Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs The agent responds to Mrs. Wiegel's letter to the commissioner. She has exaggerated the use of peyote on the So. Ute Reservation. His employees are not drinking on the job. He does not think the Indians should be given the responsibility of supervising and maintaining irrigation ditches. He agrees that a small monument should be placed on Chief Ouray's grave. 1926 Con. Ute Agency Industrial Program Deals with both Southern Ute and Ute Mountain reservations. Considers farming ( So. Ute only), stock raising ( mostly Ute Mountain), leasing, home building, road improvement, irrigation, schools, law and order, and health. Includes photographs. Ute Agency Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Advises that there are several reservoirs that could be built on Ute Mountain Reservation that could assist in increasing the range area. |
