Indian Inspector Letter to the Secretary of the Interior Reports on the possibility of contracting with the Montezuma Valley Canal Company to provide water for the western portion of the Southern Ute Reservation. Describes facilities of the company and the additional facilities or modifications needed to supply the water. Suggests how water should be paid for. ( Enclosed map is missing.) NA/ RG75/ 57838 May 8, 1900 Smith, Joseph 0., Indian Agent, So. Ute Agency Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Smith informs the commissioner of the poor condition of the Navajo Springs Indians. He writes that the government has not provided the promised irrigation system and has decreased the provisions as well, leaving these Indians in a desparate situation, with no means to provided food for themselves. FRCD/ RG 75 Aug. 8, 1900 Johnson, Charles, Dolores, Colorado Letter to Joseph 0. Smith, Indian Agent, So. Ute Agency " There are some Ute Indians at or near " horse camp" on " Horse Canon." Water is very scarce and Indians being near the watering place it frightens cattle away preventing them from getting needed water.
