Ute Agency Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs At a council meeting held Feb. 1, the Indians were upset that no information could be given them about the agreement with the government to exchange lands for the expansion of Mesa Verde Park. THe Indians insist that less was relinquished than was taken. NA/ RG75/ 23867- 1934- Con Ute 304.3 Feb. 22, 1935 Hughes, Shurman & Dwight Letter to the BIA Considers the bill, S. 281, to compensate the Ute Indians for lands in western Colorado. Suggests that the bill be amended so the Northern Utes receive 2/ 3 of the money and also so that the attorney fee situation is clarified. Wattson Notes dissatisfaction of the Ute Mountain Utes with the boundary of their reservation. Reviews history. Records show that 14,52 0 acres were exchanged for 30,240 acres. Terms of the agreement were complied with. Quotes the transcript of the 1911 council. Also notes that Congress ratified a modified agreement because the Mesa Verde tract was enlarged. Letter to Dir. of National Park Service Reports Ute Council met at Mesa Verde to clarify agreement made in 1911 wherein land was exchanged.
