Lack of reports from Weaver and complaintss of Indian raids in Colorado and New Mexico described. Weaver is reminded of So. Ute Agency jurisdiction of Utes by 1862 treaty. Feb. 7, 1878 (?) Letter to F. H. Weaver, Agent, Tierra Amarilla, N. M. Reports receiving letter updating progress in construction of buildings and proposed bill for removal of Indians. Mar. 27, 1878 Leeds, Wm. M., Acting Commissioner Letter to Francis H. Weaver, Agent Notified again of actions taken by the Interior and War Department with the removal of Indians at Abiquiu and Cimarron. Agent is informed to take charge of Indians without any delay upon their arrival. May 3, 1878 Statutes at Large The President is authorized to enter negotiations with the Ute Indian to consolidate bands under agency at the White River and for the extinguishment of their right to the southern portion of their reservation in the state of Colorado. |
