Ute Agency " There are some Ute Indians at or near " horse camp" on " Horse Canon." Water is very scarce and Indians being near the watering place it frightens cattle away preventing them from getting needed water. Ute Agency Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Smith forwards a letter to the commissioner from Charles Johnson, a white settler, who complains that the So. Ute Indians are off the reservation. Smith asks the commissioner to authorize immediate action to secure water for the So. S., Governor, Colorado Telegram to the Secretary of the Interior " Report reaches from J. W. Westcott postmaster at Cedar Colo that Utes from Navajo Springs agency are (?) & appropriating range & saddle horses stockmen threaten to shoot them unless they desist they retaliate by threatening lives of women and children please notify agents at once."
