OCR Text | 98 city thence Easttothe aforesaid South Westcorier of sait five acre lots and along the Southline thereof thence East to the base of the mountains thence directly North topoint directly East of the South-east corner -of the Church Pasture thence West to the-place of begirning including the present surveys of said City shall be known Name style and designated as Great Salt Lake City and the inhabit ants thereof are hergby constitutedbody corporate and politic by the name aforesaid-and shall have peryciual Seal Somert succession and may have and usecommon seal which they may change and alter At pleasure Sec The inhabitants of said City by the name and style aforesaid shall have power to sue and be sued toplead and be impleaded defend and be defended in all Courts of law and equity andin all actions whatsoever to purchase receive and hold property real and personal in said City to purchas receive and hold real property beyond the City for burying grounds or other public purposes for the use of the inhabitants of said City to sell lease convey or dispose of property real and personal for the benefiv of said City to improve and protect such property and todo all other things in relation thereto as natural persons eity Council Sec There shall beCity Council to consist ofMayor four Aldermen and nine Counselors who shall have the qualifications of electors of said City and shall be chosen by the qualified voters thereof and shall hold Term of office their offices for two years and until their successors shall be elected and qualiied The City Council shall judge of the qualifications elections and returns of their own to day and compel the of absent Majority to members andmajority of thshall formquorum to formaquorum do business butsmallnumber may adjourn from day attendance members under such penalies as may be preseribed by ordinance Sec The Mayor Aldermen and Counselors before entering upon the duties of their offices shall take and subscribe an oath or affirmation that they-will sup -port the Constitution of the United States and of this State and that they will well and truly perform the duties of their offices to the lities eletJimes Sec On the best first Monday of their of skill March and abi next and every two years thereafter on said day an election shall be held for the election of one Mayor four Aldermen and Fintelecticn nine Counselors and at the first election under this or fons |
