Show the TJnited States the sum of $8,295.80 for the use and benefit of the Indk~nso ccnpymg the Yakima Reservation Of this $5,309 was to be expended for the benefit of the Indians in such manner as the Secretary of the Interior might direct, the bala~~tcoe be expended as the Seore-tary of the Interior might direct for the benefit of individual Indians, or their heirs, or paid to them iu cash, in the proportioil to which they might severally be entitled, as appears 011 Schedule E attached to said :bgreemeot. This sum was deposited by the company in the United States8 Treasury, in itocordance with the provisions of the act. On May 4,1893, the Department forwarded to this office a copy of a letter of the same date, addressed to the Secretary of the Treasury in response to a wmmunication fro111 him, giving directions as to what disposition should be made of said money. CONDITIONS TO BE COMPLIED WITH BY RAILROAD COMPANIES. In the construction of railways thmugh Indian lands a systematic compliance by companies with the conditions expressed in the right.of-way acts will prevent much unnecessary delay. Each company should file in this office- (1) A copy of its articles of incorporation, duly certified to by the proper officers under its corporate seal. (2) Maps representing the definite location of the liue. In the absenoe of any special provisions with regard to the length of line to be represented upon the maps of definite location, they should be so prepared as to represent sections of 25 miles each. If the liue passes through surveyed land, they shoilld show its location acc~urately% cord-ing t c ~th e sectional subdivisions of the survey; and if through unsur-veyed. land, it should be carefully iudicated with regard to its general direction and the natural objects, farms, etc., aloug the route. Each of these maps should bear the a.ffidavit of the chief engineer, setting forth that the survey of the route of the company's road from - to -- , a distance of - miles (giving termini a,nd distance), was made by him (or under his direction) as chief engiuecr, under authority of the company, on or between certain dates (giving the same), and that such survey is accurately represented on the map. The affidavit of tbe chief engiueer must be signed by him officially, and verified by the certificates of t,he president of the kompany, attested by its secre-tary under its corporate seal, settiug,forth that the person signing. the affidavit was either the chief engineeror mas employed for the purpose of making snchsurvey, which was done under theauthority of the company. Further, that tlie line of route so surveyed aud represented by the map was adopted by the company by resolution of its board of directors of a certain date (giving the date) as the definite location of the line of road from -t o -, a distauce of -m iles (giving termini and dist'~rlce), and tlz%t the map has been prepared to be filed for the approval of the Secretary of the Interior, ill order that the company |
