Show September 12, 1892, the agellt replied as follows: In response to ~.orlueatw onld respectfully state t,hat modifiaatiolls of these rules have been under consideration with the suparintsndent, and we have concluded that it will be best to adopt tho rules of last ".inter with the following smend-monta : First. Thst in atldition to the number of feet of logs to be banked, aa provided in his coutrilct, e:tch contractor may be permit,te~l to cut butta and tops of timber left in logging, into shiugle bolts, nncl bank the same for his own benefit, under the direction of the superintendent of logging. That suc l~sh ingle timber shall be sealed or measnred by tho regular log ~caler so n duty a t the respective. camps, and that all shingle bolts so bauked and scaled shall ba adrertised and sold to the highest bidder, under sarled proposals, in the same munnor that the lags are advertised snd sold. All money received for moll shingle timber, after pitying expenses of advertising and aale, shall he g ~ ~ tiod t he Men,monee oontraotor prepared such timber for market. Second. That rules be so amended as to authorize paying scalers 82.75 per day, instsad of $2.50; they to pay their own board. These additions are intended to help the loggers to more pay for the winter's work by saving a 1:trge qoantity of tirnber in shingle bolts which would otherwise go to waste, and as it will add to the care and responsibility of scalers, slightly increasing their per diem.
