P. Cook & Bra., viz, $14.08 for those banked on the South Branoh of the Ooonto River, amounting to 4,628,602 feet; hut the bids of this firm for tho other lots are so mnch below that of Hollister & MoMillan as to bring dawn the total offered by Cook & Rro. to $244,281.16, or $30,712.24 less than that of Hollister & MoMillan. I therefore join Agent ICelsey in recorc~mendingt hat bid No. 5, bg Messm. Hollister & McMillan, vis, $13.15 per 1,M)O feet for all be accepted, nnd the aalo to the laat-named Brm be confirmed. In view of these facts t.he Department replied on the next day, eon- 1 firming the sale of all the 20,000,000 feet to lfessrs. Hollister & McMil- Ian, and in due time the $275,000 was depositerl in the United States Treasury for the benefit of the Menomonees, as required by the act. The average price paid to the loggers for labor banking the logs was nearly $3.39 per 1,000 feet. The largest sum received by any sqna& I for this work was $3,599.95 and the lowest $157.14.
