Show of the generic filter. Information in blocks on the left: masking constants, routing information, comparison constants, and Boolean expressions, is set by the director at the beginning of monitoring. Event storage keeps event values. It can hold only the last event or the last several events that are used in evaluating filter functions. A masking unit extracts bit fields from event values by performing a logical and between events in the event storage and masking constants. Masking is useful to determine fields in the machine instruction denoting information such as the operation code, source registers, destination registers and literals. The results of the masking unit are routed through routing network in the comparison unit using routing information. The comparison unit compares the results of masking with comparison constants. Each comparator is able to perform six elementary comparisons: equal to, greater than, greater than or equal to, smaller than, smaller than or equal to, not equal to. Some comparators might be specialized for floating point operations. The results 128 Figure 5.6. ALU with Two Function Inputs |
