Show INTERVIEW: Garcia Page 10 up here because of work. More jobs up here, a little bit bigger and a little bit more opportunity than Monticello. And then they just all stayed here. GC: Now why would SOCIO be organized ... I mean, was it just a fraternal organization or was it special problems that have to be coped with or ... ? RG: Well, yeah, I think it was organized mainly because at the time there were a few people here that weren't working and they were ... this just happened to be handy at the time. it wasn't because of need in my opinion, it was just because it was handy. And I think a lot of the people were misled here, like they kind of thought it was like a place where you needed, if you needed food, they'd give you food, or if you needed a job, they'd give you a job, you know, and they were misled, I think they were misled at the time. And I think that's why a lot of people went into it, and after they saw that you got what you put into it, their interest dwindled, you know, it wasn't because they needed it, but it was handy at the time. GC: Who decided really to organize it? Was it just a g~t-together or ... ? RG: Yeah, it was more or less a get-together, I think that they had their first meeting up to Bob's house, Bob Nieves'.
