Show INTERVIEW: Sanchez Page 8 PS: Golly I wish you wouldn't ask me years. I don't know. It's only been about, oh, about three years ago I guess when Socia first started here. GC: Now, at that meeting that you had, do you remember who all was there? You mentioned Bill. Was that Bill Gonzalez? PS: Yeah. That was Bill Gonzalez, and then there was Beefy Durant and his ~ife ~as there ... GC: Beefy? PS: I don't know ~hat his other name ~as. We al~ays called him Beefy. And relatives of Bill's and his mother and his wife's mother, Sarah Garcia, Richard Garcia ... golly, I can't think of the names .•• it's really hard. GC: Was there anyone from the outside that ~as here organizing or as an organizer? PS: No, other than Julian, other than the help that ~e got from Julian, this ~as about all. And then Dan Johnson from Price, he was with the Community Action in Price, and he donated money to get us started, you know, as far as for stamps and post cards and things, little things like that. None of us ever got any pay for the job ~e did, ~hich, you kno~, ~e didn't really expect any pay for it, it was just something that ~e ~anted to do for the people. And he did get us a little bit of money for things such as stamps and things like that, and he really took an active interest in it. GC: Now, did they have a Community Action Program here in Moab? |
