GC: Have you, previous to this time, have you ever heard of any other Chicano organization or any other Mexican-American organization? PS: Not through here. Through Uplands here, you know, CEDA and I can't get those names, all those names. GC: CEDA. What's ..• PS: CEDA. It's a kind of a ••• economic development is what it is. Kind of what Uplands is too. That's over in Durango, Denver, they've got branchs over the whole state of Colorado and I think the biggest one comes out of Denver. GC: And Uplands, that's the name of the organization then? PS: Yeah, that I was working on. That's a kind of economic development too. And when we first started out with Uplands it was just, it wasn't really big, we got money from the government but it was for, at the start, small businesses, you know, and we tried and didn't do too good. But you know, it wasn't because we didn't try but just because we didn't really know ho~. We didn't have the knowledge that we had to back up what we started and kind of just Jet things lie down, and now they're going really strongly but they're going now for bigger businesses, and they figure now that instead of trying to get little businessmen to start businesses and just go deeper in the hole and find themselves with more money worries, now what they're trying to do is get the |
